Music Farm has been shut down indefinitely following a fire on Sunday, Sept. 23, according to owner Pat McAuley.
Blake Noble Band, of Seattle, Washington was headlining a show at Music Farm, located at 32 Ann St., when the fire erupted and everyone ran for exits.
Jake Alise, the band’s drummer, is in intensive care due to injuries.
152 people were taken to MUSC’s emergency room, most were treated for smoke inhalation and minor injuries.
“That was totally crazy,” said Jordan Hassel, College of Charleston business major. “One minute I’m drinking beer and dancing and singing along, and the next we’re all running through smoke to get out the door.”
Within three minutes firefighters were on the scene and were able to evacuate everyone before the building went up in flames.
The fire lasted two hours before firefighters were able to put it out.
There was $90,000 worth of damage made during the fire.
Fire Chief Susan Rico said that the fire may be due to a faulty wiring system, although the cause of the fire is still uncertain.
“Hats off to the firefighters as well as Music Farm security who helped get patrons out in a controlled manner,” said Rico. “The outcome of a fire this dangerous could have been much, much worse.”
